Remembrance Day 2023

                     Air eagal du'n dean sinn dearmad . . .

There was a soldier, a Scottish soldier . . .

Today is Novermber 11, Veterans Day in the USA and Remembrance Day in the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.  I've visited Scotland many times, and like other parts of the UK, every town and village has a monument to the Great War of 1914-1918.  Only recently, however, did I learn that Scotland was second only to France as the nation losing the largest percentage of its population.  At over 3%, those 150,000 dead would be the equivalent of 10 million in the modern USA.  This year, I am honoring some of the brave Scottish men who gave their all in the Great War.

  1. Thank you for this. I didn't know that Scotland had lost so many men in WWI. In general, fiction and nonfiction media about the "Great War" make me nervous.
