This is the Cowie Family of Edinburgh, the middle class holders of a seven room tenement rental.
All five of the boys in this photo served in the Great War, and three (James, John, and Lindsay) were killed in 1915. John (left) and Lindsay are shown below, but we have no later photo of James.
