What a great time when the stars looked like real men with their hair... I bought Playgirl for 'my mother' so as not to arouse the bookstore's suspicions. The hardest part was giving these magazines to my mother who wondered why I came home with books about naked men and not with books about women. I was 18 or 19 at the time! LOL
I worked about 20 miles from where I lived. I was 20 in 1979. I used to stop at a Thrifty Drug store near my machine plant and buy the latest Playgirl after work. I always included a Motocross magazine and a Sports Illustrated, just to throw the checkout person off the track. The male checkers always looked at me weird, but the females always gave me those knowing glances. Somehow they knew about my secret.

ReplyDeleteWhat a neat mother!
DeleteLOLLLL !
DeleteYou have told me other stories about your mother, and all I can say is that they didn't make very many women like her. You were lucky!
DeleteSi j'aimais les femmes, je ne serais pas ici, Jerry. :-)
DeleteSorry, If I liked women, I wouldn't be here, Jerry. :-)
DeleteWonderful man and wonderful series. Real window into another time. So good!
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed the series.

ReplyDeleteI was living in New Orleans at the time, and nobody cared.
