Lou Costello

Lou Costello made a career out of being a chubby funny man,
and he wasn't afraid to show off his bulk.  He's adorable in stripes.

  1. Comedians of tragedy.
Lou Costello lost his toddler son in a drowning incident and Bud Abbott suffered from epilepsy. (a health issue they kept secret to protect his employment in the film industry ,
    health precondition = uninsurable)
    Nonetheless a great comedy duo….:)

    1. I knew about the tragedy of Mr. Costello's son, but Mr. Abbott's epilepsy was a surprise. I can see why they kept it under wraps, which must have been difficult given the lack of treatment options in those days.

  2. There was something very sweet and cute about Lou. YouTube used to have out takes and flubs from their films and Lou lets loose with some colorful language. Mostly the F word. Lol.

    1. Yes, very sweet. The man was known as a clown, but he was amazingly disarming and convincing on those rare occasions he was asked to portray sadness. I'm not sure if those scenes were shot before or after the tragic loss of his son, but either way, they impress.

    2. There is a poignant story involving him and Lucille Ball. When she came under scrutiny for possibly being Communist Lou showed up and was sitting in her garden, when Lucy asked him what he was doing there he said "You go about your business I just thought you might need a friend here right now." What a class act.
