And a last favorite

As promised, here is my favorite photo of miners, posted almost six years ago.
The dirty faces, fine bodies, and most of all, those smiles are just the best.

  1. Dear Jerry,
You know how much the pictures of miners touch me.
This whole series is magnificent, there is joy, effort, exhaustion, pride in being a miner.
These pictures perfectly describe the life of these rough men and I know what I am talking about, you know it well.
It is rare when this happens to me when seeing pictures, but my eyes fill with tears. I was very lucky not to have been worked in the mines. My ancestors were miners from father to son, and this, for seven generations. I went back to 1790 in my family tree and not one of my ancestors escaped it.

  3. A tough and dirty job but someone had to do it. Hats off to the guys who risked their lives and health on a daily basis.

    1. My grandfather had two cousins who thought that ranching life was too tough. So what did they do? They ran off and became coal miners. Go figure.

    2. I would have gone with ranching, at least it's above ground work. I get claustrophobic using a stairwell!
