Man and dog
The dog is looking straight at the camera while the man is walking away.
If this wasn't a lucky accident, it had to be hard to set up.
You must remember, cameras in those years were not the handy, easy to carry devices that we have now. The dog is probably looking at the photographer setting up his camera tripod and saying to himself 'what I this man doing'.

DeleteThere are dogs who like to pose for photographers, I have experience with my Lady, a Yorkshire terrier. Her owner has a very nice ass!
