1900 Era Swimmers, Part Two - Men in Suits, the Germans
s
Our Sunday G-rated posts are German men in a wide variety of swim suits.
There's no water in sight, and there's a football on the ground, but I'm betting these guys
have a lake nearby to jump into when they get all sweaty.
The age & physical condition (or lack of it) of these men, plus the improvised nature of some of those G-strings, makes me suspect they're at one of the German spas like the Jungborn, where guests spent the daylight hours totally naked in sexually segregated Herren- und Damenparks, taking cold baths at the crack of dawn, exercising, and wallowing in mud. There were many such spas in Germany & Austria for much of the 20th Century, & a far less Spartan "wellness" regimen is still available in the town of Bad Sobernheim. A couple of years ago I posted two photos from the Jungborn, one of which you guessed was "a nudist book club for middle-aged men." Let me know if you'd like to see a few more.
This is one of the most interesting vintage photos that I have ever seen. It has a slightly cheeky quality. I love it.
