German photographers and artists Max Koch and Otto Rieth produced a volume of male nude photos shot in 1894 and published the following year. Their portrayal of full-on masculinity set a standard for male beauty that lasted well into the next century. In this picture they used their favorite technique to add dimension to images, angled mirrors to show the same subject from different points of view. British photos of the strong man Eugen Sandow are said to have been influenced by Der Act.
