This came with the caption "1950's Classic Figure Study by Rod Crowther." I couldn't find a 50's photographer by that name in my files or on line. Anyone know of him?
From the aoc.cdlib.org site contact: Michael C Olivera, One National Gay and Lesbian Archives, USC Library c.2017 909 West Adams Blvd. Los Angeles CA 90007 (askone@usc.edu) "Rod Crowther (Chevy Chase, Maryland 1958-1965) sold photographs through a catalog - photos appeared in Trim and Fizeek early 1960s - one of his models was Trey Jordan"
I find that when doing searches for vintage items it helps to add a qualifying factor - for this particular search I used "Rod Crowther physique" which brought up the above site
G.Rodney Crowther was born in N.C. and grew up in the D.C./Baltimore area. His father was the editor of the Baltimore Sun and press secretary to FDR. Crowther was a roommate at one time of Al Urban. I found 2 of his pics dating to 1950 and 1966 suggesting he had a long career in the 50s and 60s. I could find no other photos however.

Thanks for sharing both the information and the source! I've added that site to my research resource list. Odd they didn't show up in my searches.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the bio, Dino. I have found a few other photos since this one posted and will try to scrape together a series.
