Men and Their Cars
Today we look at some men with cars. We start with a guy practicing his high kick
while leaning against what I think is a 1967 Pontiac GTO.
Wallis Simpson - aka the Duchess of Windsor - the femme fatale for whom Edward VIII renounced the throne, shocked the Court when in mourning the late King George V by saying that she hadn't seen so many black stocking since she'd danced the Can-Can - but I don't think she even had this photo in mind when she said it.
To say she wore the trousers in the relationship would be the greatest understatement since Eve took evening classes in horticulture. Many explanations have been proffered for the "love story of the century", none of which properly explains a near-inexplicable obsession with her. Psychology was in its infancy in those days and with hindsight, it is clear that Edward "David" Windsor was a deeply conflicted and disordered man, against whom the British Establishment conspired to oust from the throne, the hapless Wallis being the excuse. His equerry of the time is on record as stating that he saw the Prince of Wales and later King naked on a number of occasions in sports locker rooms. He had the "smallest pecker I had ever seen and an abnormally hairless body". It is now thought that he suffered from some sort of glandular or hormonal abnormality which delayed puberty - which would explain his whimsically emotive and immature behaviour. His paternal grandmother, Queen Alexandra - Danish-born consort of Edward VII - is reputed never properly to have grown up and possessed the "mind of an adolescent". Perhaps he inherited some genetic problem. The tactless Wallis made an enemy of Elizabeth, Duchess of York and later Queen Consort of Edward's brother, George VI, despite the fact that Elizabeth was as capable of the stinging put-down and rib-tickling quip as her hapless sister-in-law. There was not much to choose between the two of them. It is quite untrue that Wallis was unacceptable to the upper-classes because she was an American as she was unacceptable to the lower-classes because she was a divorcée. Umpteen British aristocrats had American wives - Winston Churchill's mother being Jennie Jerome, scion of a millionaire family of Huguenot ancestry. It was the working-classes who gathered outside Buckingham Palace to chant "Hands off our King". Accusations of Nazi and Fascist affiliations have to be put into a context of vast numbers of the British great and good who gave Hitler a free pass and either sympathized or turned a blind eye. Handled properly, Edward and Wallis could have made a very good king and queen, but their faces - certainly hers - did not fit. And I think we all know what that is like. She most certainly did not hold irrational prejudices against gay men - in common with her sister-in-law - and for that humanity in a cruel age she should be commended. What is even worse than their sad story is that those who do not learn the lessons of history are condemned to repeat them. And the House of Windsor seems deaf to the past.
I've seen totally unverified stories (one from Scotty Bowers) that claim that Edward and Wallis were both bisexual. Of course there are any number of other, even more lurid rumors out there, too.
I had never heard that about Edward's pecker size and hairlessness, but it ties in with what I had heard about George's genital troubles and fertility issues. It has been suggested based on reliable insiders' knowledge that the current Queen and her sister were born only after a primitive form of artificial insemination had to be used due to George's inadequacies.
Interesting. Centuries of royal inbreeding have produced all sorts of anomalies. We all knew about hemophilia and the Hapsburg jaw, and now we have Windsor genital issues.
I grew up in a medical family and the most common explanation for the royal family's sexual problems was rampant and untreated STD's, particularly syphilis. There was an old medical report, a decade or so ago, from England that supposedly chronicled the males sexual histories/diseases. It specifically said that the Quebec's mother was artificial inseminated for both daughters to avoid contracting her husband's untreatable STD's. The British press tore the report apart, but most of the medical professionals I know all say that report is probably (still) the most accurate account of the male royal's sexual rumors.

DeleteSyphilis was everywhere, and the only treatment at the time was mercury, which is in reality worthless.
