Jockstraps Before World War II

Today's theme is men in jockstraps from the first half of the 20th Century.
We start with a young man showing off in front of a friend.

  1. When did jockstraps become common? I don't mean as "fashion statements," like they are today, but as actual aids to keeping one's male gear safe? I still wear one when I play racquetball. And I don't mean a "cute" one. I mean a plain old Bike.

    1. They have evolved, but the first ones were made for bicycle "jockeys" in 1874, hence the nickname. They didn't go into mass production (by Bike, of course) until 1897.

    2. I wondered where the name "Bike" came from. I did wear one occasionally when biking, especially if I were wearing shorts. The strap kept things from flopping out.
