Volleyball
This guy is about to play volleyball, and normally in my world that would make him a nudist. He looks more like a model or a bodybuilder than a nudist, though. No ordinary man is built like that.
Je ne te comprends pas Jerry, les culturistes ne peuvent-ils pas ête nudistes? **************** I don't understand you Jerry, can't bodybuilders be nudists?
For once there is no sportswear on which to comment... other than, perhaps, to observe that any number of gymnasia - coming from a Greek word γυμνός (naked) from the verb γυμνάζω (gymnazo), meaning "to train naked" - in the Victorian period where training as well as indoor games - such as volleyball and badminton - were often undertaken in the nude. I have a contemporary illustration of a French gym in the late Victorian period where all the men are starkers, so we know this to be historical fact rather than titillating fancy. A naked volleyball player might well have had this splendid specimen's physique in 1890.
It turns out that Bryan B. recognized this as Michel Belloucy in a Jean Ferrero photo. Ferrero was known to work with some of his models (and occasional bystanders) in French nudist resorts. Thanks, Bryan!
There are several games I'd rather play with him...than volleyball.

ReplyDeleteThe Olympic Games of antiquity were played naked, I don't see where the harm is.
DeleteThis particular player was a Ferrero model. See below.
