Pistol
Given the huge volume of work that Brian Idol did, it was inevitable that some photographer
would do a Western theme. In this case it was Bruce and just a pistol with no hat.
So many ideas, but so little time. I have a conflicted approach to the cowboy thing, having been one as a teenager. I cringe at the lack of authenticity in most "physique" photos of that type, yet find myself still appreciating them. Maybe I should do a series on fake cowboys who come closest to the real thing.
Given your background, I can understand why you have a conflicted approach to the cowboy thing, Jerry. We touched upon this subject earlier in the year when you featured the series on Dick Dene (thanks again!). I thought that he looked the real deal in the 'Cowboy Wash-Up' film and photos and you said that he was definitely one of the more authentic looking 'cowboys'.
Yes, Peter, that Dick Dene series was well thought out, well produced, and well done by the model. Probably the best of the genre. I'll see if any others approach that level of believability.
Uh, he's also minus a few other articles of clothing. Which is fine by me. I see a shadow...
ReplyDeleteBut did he have Bruce's cowboy boots on?!

We'll never know for sure, but I have other photos that appear to be from the same session where he is indeed wearing those boots.
DeleteMaybe Bruce's cowboy boots deserve a series of their own!
