Ray Routledge appears to have stopped posing nude when his bodybuilding career took off in the late 1950s, although he continued to work for Russ Warner with his pants on. In part two of our tribute, we'll see some of these impressive images. I've been able to document Ray's appearance on no less than a dozen magazine covers between 1959 and 1968, and that's not counting two additional covers on tribute issues in the 1990s. This great seaside shot is from 1960 and probably by Warner.
He seems taller in this picture. Any idea of his height?
ReplyDeleteFunny you mention that, he gained an inch in height in his 30s when he took a Weider course of training. That made him six feet exactly.
DeleteI attended San Jose State but don't remember seeing stuff like this. (It was just a bit before my time there.)
ReplyDeleteFWIW, Mr. Routledge was in the Air Force much of this time, and some of his training, etc., would have been at the now defunct base.
