The art academies of the 19th Century unknowingly provided a treasure trove of material for 21st Century bloggers and aficionados of male nude art by requiring all their students to draw and/or paint men nude as part of their training. Some time ago I noticed that more than a few of these survive were done by artists who must have sat next to or near each other in class. I even posted a few earlier. Today we'll take a closer look at some of these. Here's what a class looked like:
The Tonists? After the drawing sessions, did some or all of them blow on the flute?

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely true about Eakins! He eventually lost his job and founded his own academy.
