I had a request for more photos from my vintage anthropology files, and I am obliging it
even though my ethical concerns about the circumstances under which they may have been
made remain. We start with a composite I put together of three photos from the Princeton
University archive by the Frenchman Bertall in 1881. In a very rare case, the Moroccan
man who posed is actually identified as 24 year old Mohamed bou Zian.
