Disc
I like the way the photographer lined up the shot of this discus athlete.
Both his eyes and the disc are coming straight at us.
"Discobolus" by Matthieu (sometimes Matthaus) Kessels, 1828. Marble - Sculpture Gallery, Chatsworth House - Derbyshire, England.
I came across this note from a Facebook post by "Ars Europa" (I'm not on FB, and was glad I got access): "The Dutch neoclassical sculptor, Mathieu Kessels, worked mainly in Rome, where he came into contact with the greatest exponents of the neoclassical sculptural current: Antonio Canova and Bertel Thorvaldsen. Among his patrons are William Cavendish, 6th Duke of Devonshire, who commissioned two marble bas-reliefs, Day and Night, from 1819, and the statue of the Diskobolos Preparing to Throw, from 1828, in the picture, both at Chatsworth House."

This work is an excellent reinterpretation of the classical style. Still with the age-old proportions, yet the addition of realism.

So it's 19th C. That doesn't surprise me as I got a neoclassical feel from it. Thanks for the ID on the sculptor and the provenance!
