1872 II
Emile Henri Renard made this 1872 drawing. For some reason, I'm quite taken
with the position of the model's right hand and the his downward gaze upon it.
As ever, I'm attempting to work out the reasoning in the pose. As usual, it's all about stability and maintaining the pose over time. The wide stance, the tucked in arm. I suspect the right arm is resting on some undrawn object. The gaze onto the hand stops the head moving.

ReplyDeleteThanks, David! It all makes sense.
