Let's go way, way back
I'm going way, way back today to the earliest male nude photographs
in my collection. We start with the "newest" of the group, an 1862 number
called "Joseph Delmas in the Costume of Adam" from Atelier Vidal.
Wow. Thank you, Jerry. A popular era with many of us. Well done to our model in holding that pose long enough to give us, viewing it 161 years later, a fairly sharp image.
Any idea of the shutter speed and media? I was discussing this yesterday in an open archive Muybridge presentation in Kingston-on-Thames. Superb collection, including his personal scrapbook, Human locomotion prints and, best of all, a near perfect 1878 San Francisco panorama.

ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, David. This one shows how much the technology had advanced in about 40 years.

DeleteI don't know the specifics, but I can say with some certainty that exposure times approaching a full minute were not uncommon in that era.
Deletenice to see true vintage
ReplyDeleteNo question about this one being the real deal.
