This might not be an unaltered photograph. Yes, the individuals on the right are not in suits like those on the left. There is a lot about this picture that raises questions in my mind.
Ah, Italian. They have to be Italian. The Italians have one of the most relaxed sense of social distance in Europe and can't keep their hands off each other. I lay money on this being taken in an Italian art school.
A Google Lens search says it is from the Academie Julian, a private art school for painting and sculpture founded in Paris, France, in 1867 by French painter and teacher Rodolphe Julian (1839–1907) that was active from 1868 through 1968. In 1880 it accepted women when the Ecole des Beaux Artes did not accept women. Bougereau was an instructor there. After 1968, it integrated with ESAG Penninghen.
