Those of you who follow the art postings here are quite accustomed to seeing lots and lots
of works by Frenchmen on these pages. Well, today it's the turn of the English, and we start
with a chunky model painted by William Herbert Allen about 1880. When I researched
Mr. Allen, I was delighted to find that he had painted the same (or a very similar) model
from behind. I was then disappointed to learn that he is best known for watercolor
landscapes and rarely painted men after art school. Too bad, that.
