Seven plus Two

An idyllic setting adds something to this photo of seven skinnydippers on a riverbank.
I wonder if their two clothed friends eventually joined the fun.

  1. This reminds me of the skinny dipping scene from the superb 1985 Merchant Ivory adaptation of E M Forster's 1908 novel A Room with a View, staring Simon Callow as Simon Callow as The Reverend Mr Beebe, Julian Sands as George Emerson, and Rupert Graves as Freddy Honeychurch. Julian Sands sadly passed away in a mountaineering accident on Mount San Antonio, California, earlier this year. Simon Callow is an out gay actor and the author, E M Forster (1879 — 1970), a very prominent author and fellow of King's College, Cambridge, whose posthumously published novel on a gay theme, Maurice, saw Julian Sands once again star in the dramatization. The above image is clearly life imitating art.

  2. I thought the river, willow tree, sunlight, and appearance of the clothed men and the strapping 7 young men looked Australian. And it is. I searched on Google Lens and found it was photographed on the Hawkesbury River around 1890 – 1900. The image comes from the Hawkesbury Library Service and the photographer was George Edward Woodhill.
