Texas Rangers

Ten Texas Rangers and two dogs posed for this memorable photograph in 1885.  Legendary lawmen, the Rangers' motto was "one riot, one Ranger."  I'm proud to say that my Great-Great Grandfather was a Texas Ranger, and I even have his payroll records.  No photo, though.

  1. Do you think they realized how cute they were? Like a tin of cupcakes...

  2. Too bad you don't have a photo of your Great-Great Grandfather. In his gear, I bet he looked as hot as the gentlemen in the above photo.

    1. He died in 1876 at age 42, and what we know of him is via oral history and legal records. He "patented" his virgin land under a Republic of Texas law that carried over into statehood, and as noted earlier, we have his payroll records from the Rangers as well as the Confederate Army. He was also a conscientious voter and served on juries and grand juries.

    2. Do you want to post more details about him so we can search on the Internet?

    3. No thanks, Jim. Multiple descendants have researched him thoroughly, and we know even more than I've revealed here. His lineage has been traced back convincingly to 1735, and his is the only Welsh line in my tree.
