This is a lifesize statue of a youth with an interesting history. Unearthed at an ancient Alpine Romano-Gallic settlement in western Austria around 1500, the original was traded among Hapsburg and Borbon nobles in Austrian and Spain for three centuries until it was lost sometime around 1800. (How do you "lose" something like that?) What I photographed in the Kunsthistorisches Museum is a 1550 casting copy made in Austria said to be very true to the original.
