Our last J.C. Leyendecker work of the day is the least overtly sports oriented and a segue of sorts into a future series featuring this amazing artist's work in the area of men's fashion. His ads for Arrow Collar (later shirts) and Kuppenheimer Men's Clothing set the style for a generation . . . or two.
Great stuff! Did he do any males nude?
ReplyDeleteNot that I've been able to find.
DeleteCan't wait to see more!
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed the set!
DeleteAnd we find that there is a documentary on him streaming on HBO and Prime. It will be worth watching.
ReplyDeleteWow! I had no idea. Thanks.
DeleteThank you for the feature on JC Leyendecker. I have seen many artworks by him, mainly from his ads. You found a few new ones for me. I'm sure you know that he was often referred to as the original Norman Rockwell. In fact, I'm not sure, but I think that Rockwell was an apprentice to him.
ReplyDeleteDino, you are spot on about Rockwell. Leyendecker has been widely recognized as a big part of the inspiration for Rockwell's style, and some art historians have even done side by side comparisons that readily show it. In fact, I will be publishing one of those comparisons in a future series.
DeleteThere is an excellent book on J.C. Leyendecker by Cutler and Cutler.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
