Joe Mason
Given Dave Martin's propensity to photograph college athletes, we can probably assume that Joe Mason here was a football player. I could not, however, find out which college.
And why do I get the feeling they called this guy "Moose.?"
I remember when I was a junior in high school all the senior guys looked like this. Seemingly older and far more mature looking then their years. Needless to say I was fine with that!
I felt similarly and would only add that in my genealogical research I've had occasion to research literally hundreds of high school yearbooks from the 40s, 50s, and 60s. It amazes me how much more mature the upperclassmen of those days look than the kids of today. My dad hired a young man in 1968 to work on the ranch doing non-cowboy tasks. He looked about 30 and had a Social Security card. No problem. Six months later, the police showed up with his dad in tow. Turned out that he was 14 and had run away from home. Dad didn't tell them that he was very sexually active with a 35 year old woman in town.
I thumbed through my first school year book, and the guys on the teams were big and hairy. 16 and 17 yr. old! If I knew then what I know now, and it was an all boys school!
