It should come as no surprise that my favorite period of male nude photography is 1875-1925. I never seem to get tired of finding and posting material from that stretch. The technology of photography had advanced by 1875 to a level that allowed real artistry to come through, and the subjects were still fresh and lacking the crassness that set in in the middle of the 20th Century. Today we focus on the 1900-1925 span, starting with a man with a discus.
I really love that period. (Maybe too much 🤪). So fascinating and compelling and interesting. The esthetics of the era are so appealing to me. Thanks for finding all the wonderful pieces you do.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, and thanks for your thoughtful comments.
DeleteThis is a lovely find. Excellent powerful physique. The usual, "How did he get that body?". Love the feeling of him being instructed on how to hold the discus.
ReplyDeleteYes, he does seem to have had a lesson. Nice.
DeleteOne aspect not often thought of: back then, film sensitivity was much less which meant much longer exposures and that makes for a challenge when a model poses in a certain position. A clear image means the model could stand very still.
ReplyDeleteBy the time this was made exposure times had been lowered to a second or less with the best films.
