Lon of New York

Reclining models are relative rare among the early New York City physique photographers, perhaps because they specialized in competitive bodybuilders who didn't pose that way in competition.
I did, however, manage to find this great photo of Edmund Ariemma by Lon of New York.

  1. I like this pose. It "fits" this male's body, if you get my meaning. Big Dude

    1. Yes, I get it, and that package is perfectly positioned.

    2. As I've said before. Rather tricky to get right. But well done Mr Ariemma, especially as it is sadly not a regular bodybuilding pose. And yup, package, another important consideration with this pose, perfectly placed.

    3. I'm glad you commented on this one, David, because something told me the pose was not the easiest.

    4. Cheers. For life pose, he would need to get his head and shoulders slightly higher up. Or have support, that might spoil a photographic image. In that position, your neck will hurt. But it does give a lovely chest and abdomen display.

    5. True. I've learned (mainly from you) that some poses that would be fine for photography would be almost impossible for the estended span of life modeling.

  2. Well composed and properly lit image.
Ariemma was typical of the latin models Lon seemed to prefer.
Alonzo Hanagan was one of the best and had a long career in physique photography. So much so, other photographers would visit him at his New York home and studio….:)
