Color North Africa

I have a whole series of color photos from this session which my notes attribute to Eliot Elisofon.  They must have been taken in rapid successiion because they are only slightly different.  I'm not as certain about the attribution, though, but the following image in this series is well documented.

  1. An extraordinary series Jerry, thank you. This photo is my favorite!

  2. This brought a tear to my eye as my Dad served in North Africa. He was only 22 but said he met some great men from all over the continent fighting for the same thing. Freedom.

    1. My paternal uncle was in North Africa, but he got there after nearly all the fighting was done. Things got really dire in Italy, though.

    2. That it did. If you ever get the chance to see this documentary it is quite moving. My brother has his medals and I have his beret and some Italian coins the townspeople gave him in Sicily.

  3. Jerry, the attribution to Elisofon is correct. Go to the LIFE photo archive search page

and search for "north africa soldiers in shower baths" and you will see the color photos, all attributed to Elisofon. If you search for "raid on sened" you will see many more Elisofon photos, including black-and-white photos of the same group of soldiers showering. -Larry
