Early 20th Century, Mostly French
I recently acquired a number of early 20th Century French male nudes, only a few of which had photographer attributions. All but one or two of today's set are from that group,
A beautiful series, Jerry, but contrary to what you might have believed my favorite photo will not go to a behind today, but to this photo. He is the symbol of the perfect man. He seems of good size, very well proportioned, just muscular, but not too much and of a timeless modernity! I think that no one could tell by seeing this photo that it is a century old.
I'm not really surprised because you have demonstrated in the past that your taste goes beyond derriere photos. One look at your blog is a good indication of that. Also, I completely agree with your comment on this particular picture.
Some art history doctoral candidate should do a dissertation on the subject of those photographers. As you say, it's hard to trace them, but with enough effort, who knows?

DeleteI share Albert's opinion here, and this is my favorite of the day. He's a gem!
ReplyDeleteCould he be American? He looks circumcised. Or he has it skinned back.
ReplyDeleteThe body beautiful with a lovely smile.
ReplyDeletePrized jock of the coach and popular with the team in more ways than one….:)
ReplyDeleteBel athlète magnifique.
ReplyDeleteSo many photographers were active in Paris from the time of the Belle Époque until WW1, one cannot trace them all.
