Neptune I
The Italian Renaissance sculptors made their men somewhat more burly than their Green and Roman antecedents. This 1576 work by Ammanniti is the first of two statues of Neptune in today's set.
You can’t miss this statue, part of a fountain in the Piazza della Signora in Florence. The face of Neptune was modeled after Duke Cosimo l who wanted to establish a Tuscan naval force. Ammanniti also designed a courtyard for the Pitti Palace in Florence and the facade of the Jesuit College in Rome. Rex in DC

Cosimo I must have been one fine looking man.
