Walt Needham was a shy and skinny kid in high school until he sent away for a Charles Atlas course and built himself up into a competitive bodybuilder. Above we see him (center) at the school Latin Club toga dinner and in a standard class photo. I love the bowtie. Oddly, he wasn't involved in athletics.
In HS and not into athletics because he was busy with that Atlas course building himself up. I did the same thing in HS, had no use for organized sports, did my own thing working out. Problem was as I got more muscular; some guys would try and start fights with me, I bet Needham went thru the same. The bowtie, a 50s thing for sure. To think this Utah kid would do great things for the blind and others.......:)
