This cover photo of Emile Bonnet from Strength and Health
has nice color, but to me it looks tinted somehow.
That is a regular high rise trunk on the thigh for the time. The box cut would gradually take hold - a daring introduction in the 1920s - during and after the war as social conservatism reasserted itself for over a decade. Note that throughout this series, Mr Bonnet had absolutely no prudery in respect of the male contour. This would change, and the larger, box cut modesty trunks of the 1950s would attempt to hide it as much as possible.

ReplyDeleteYou're right about Mr. Bonnet not trying to hide his bulges.
