Quite some time ago, Emile (or is it Emil?) Bonnet's name came up in some discussion here on the blog. There was a request for more photos of him, so today I'm posting all I have been able to find. For someone who was a Mr. World title holder (1938) and appeared on the cover of Strength and Health no less than three times, there are surprisingly few pictures of him in circulation.
Are there any images of him post war? Perhaps his near obscurity as an up-and-coming bodybuilder in the late 1930s is because of the war. Let us hope he didn't become yet another statistic.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't thought of that. I did find a small piece on him in an old time bodybuilder website, but it only mentioned his titles and magazine covers.
DeleteA beautiful man!
ReplyDeleteThere are 2 additional pics I found of Emil at:

Thanks! I have posted the derriere shot, but did not have the fig leaf.
DeleteI read somewhere online that the "fig leaf" Arax used in this pic was water color based, for easy removal -- a gimmick you mentioned elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteRight. I had heard of using lead pencil, grease pencil, and erasable ink, but not watercolor. Leave it to the artistic French to do that, lol.
