While this photograph was not what got Eakins fired from his job at the Philadelphia Art Institute,
it shows his approach. What did cost him his job was his insistence that female students study
anatomy and learn to draw from life models. The classes were gender segregated, but it
caused a scandal even though the male models wore loincloths.
Such a sweet photograph. Their bodies glow in the light. Discussing how to pose together?
