Jack Fontan
We're more accustomed to seeing Jack Fontan without his clothes,
but he still looks good with them on. This if from 1954.
Marlon Brando wore THAT T-shirt three years earlier in Tennessee Williams's A Street Car Named Desire, and here the style resurfaces at the hands of Platt Lynes, as equally as experienced as Elia Kazan, who directed the movie. From a European perspective, it cannot be laboured enough just how foreign and American this T-shirt was to the European eye... The British did not wear them at all at that time - they were undershirts, or what we called "vests" and the only time they saw the light of day was, just perhaps, in some sports.

ReplyDeleteI think Fontan is better looking than Brando.
