Our last English artist is Ralph Nicholas Chubb (1892-1960) who was better known in some circles as a poet who developed a very intricate and sexualize personal mythology. This was in part to cover his homosexuality and pederastic desires. The academic work above is starkly different from his later art work, which involved a lot of woodcuts and models much younger than this one. My guess is that this was a class assignment with no choice of model or subject.
The light is well done, and the painting seems a bit more lifelike than most, in that the male is shown with a man-sized penis.
