  1. Bike, a colloquial contraction of bicycle from the Latinate bi (two) and cycle, from the Greek κύκλος (kyklos) – a circle or wheel.

"I grew up in the '30s with an unemployed father. He didn't riot. He got on his bike and looked for work, and he kept looking till he found it." - Norman Tebbit, Margaret Thatcher's henchman also known to anyone of even vaguely liberal credentials as the Prince of Darkness.

"On yer bike" - a biblical injunction inviting an unwanted person to go forth and multiply.

"The village bike" - a rural individual of dubious morals.

"Bike" an athletic supporter, also known as a jockstrap - a contraction of 'jockey strap' denoting the rider of a bicycle originally called a bicycle jockey. After the trade name of the original athletic supporter, invented in 1874 by a Mr C F Bennett of Sharp & Smith, a Chicago corset manufacturer. As in "Bart Horne is missing his Bike."

"Get off and milk it" - an expression of disapprobation proffered to a po-faced, sanctimonious, holier-than-thou ecologist cycling on the pavement whilst trying to save the planet.
