Somehow this piper on some rocks doesn't seem like a von Gloeden photo to me,
but it came from a well curated European source, and the guy does look Italian.
Edited to add:  My first instinct was right.  Tom tells us in the comments that this
is by Frances Benjamin Johnston and has a citation to prove it.  Thanks, Tom!

  1. It doesn't look like a von Gloeden photo because it is not. The Library of Congress attributes it to Frances Benjamin Johnston (Digital ID: ppmsc.04880). Nice picture, though.

    1. I'll have to contact those Europeans and let them know. Thanks!

    2. It's actually Frances, not Francis. She was a female photographer working primarily from 1890-1940. The graininess of this particular photo is not due to an inferior reproduction, etc. She worked during the era of the photographic pictorialists, and they used many different processes to make their photos have a more "artistic" look. But it is a lovely photograph with a handsome subject. I wish we could see more of him!

    3. Thanks for the interesting information. I have corrected my mistake. (Tom had it right in his comment, btw.) Several searches produced, alas, no more photos of this model nor any other nude or seminude males. I did, however, discover a lot of interesting work plus the fact that she went by "Fannie" Johnston.

  2. Wow..a bit grainy, but clear enough for us to admire this muscular young man. I note he also has a rather nice tache... Very inspiring...
