The last full series on Etty that I posted was all derrieres,
and this is another example of why I think that was a good idea.
The master of the gluteus maximus. Also like the way Etty has included that awkward fold you get where arm and shoulder meet. Even in well built guys this seems to happen...More evidence that although perhaps he enhanced some of the musculature, this was included to show the work was painted from life. Also love the golden light, was this oil lights, candles, or his choice of colour palate, with perhaps some glaze that may have yellowed...I really must get to see some of his work in the flesh..
