The aircraft shown in this early 1950's poster is a Boeing 377 Stratocruiser.
It was very popular for the Hawaii run and had bar/smoking lounge on its lower deck.
They called it a "Clipper," but most of us think of iconic seaplanes when we see that term.

  1. Surfers, flying fish and Diamond Head, even without the words you know it's that paradise called Hawaii. Went there every 4-5 years, from the 60s to the 90s.
Best time was the 60s and 70s, a lot less crowded and cheaper than today. :)

    1. You should visit my home, the Big Island. It's the last bit of Old Hawaii and spectacularly scenic. The windward side where I live has some great little villages and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The good beaches are almost all leeward near Kona and Wailaloa.

    2. Had visited the Big Island back in the day. Loved to find isolated beaches and go au naturale. Also loved the grasslands of Hawaii. Finding a tropical spot and goin' native. Best of times, people take it slow there. :)

  2. Pan Am called their aircraft "Clippers" because the terminology in the early days of airplane travel was very nautical ("galley", "aft"..)
