I posted this Pat Milo photo of Don Deckman a year and a half ago,
but I think it's worth repeating for his own series here.

  1. You're right, Jerry. Don was pretty dang special from all angles! And handsome to boot. I love the way that his foreskin covers only half of his glans in all the photos. I clearly see a wedding band in the "hamper" photo. I often wonder about the motivation behind presumably heterosexual physique models who posed nude regularly. Do you think that a large part of it was simply that they could use the money? And were they all paid for modeling?

    1. Part of it was certainly the money, although I somehow doubt that the pay was all that much. Some of the models with aspirations to bodybuilding or acting careers used their connections with the photographers to get promotional photos or to get their pictures in "legitimate" magazines. I've seen more than one heterosexual model quoted as saying that he knew the photos were being pitched to gays and didn't care.

  2. An AMG bio of Don says that he first posed for them at age 17 and at age 25 he "now has kids"

  3. To be a bodybuilder and/or a nude model requires a moderate amount of exhibitionism as a personality trait. To constantly pose nude for gay photographers would require an extreme amount of exhibitionism and/or a fair to moderate amount of bisexuality. It's possible for a married straight man with children to constantly pose for gay photographers, but not likely.

    1. You raise some interesting points for discussion, Greggy. The exhibitionist element is definitely a major factor in all this, imo. Although I have pointed out a few on the blog, it is relatively rare to see one of these models who is obviously uncomfortable being photographed nude. In fact, a lot of them appear to relish it. Of course, a good photographer's job is to make the subject feel and appear comfortable, and we are talking about some of the best in the business from any point of view. Having said that, I absolutely agree that an exhibitionist personality component was there a whole lot of the time.

Kinsey and other researchers have consistently reported that about 50% (or more) of adult American men have had some sort of homosexual or bisexual leanings or experiences, so that immediately makes your case in this regard.

As for the propensity to "constantly pose," I have to note that most of these models had very fleeting careers of just a few shooting sessions that lasted a several hours at most, and even those whose body of work is larger didn't spend all that much time in front of a camera. I have exchanged emails and snail mail with a couple of these men over the years, and one gentleman in his 80's told me, "You'd be surprised what a tiny portion this was of my life, even when I was actively doing it." Of course there were a few who stayed busy over quite a period of time, but for most it was just a moment in their lives.

Thanks for initiating this discussion, Greggy. I enjoy sharing thoughts.
