As far as I can tell, Steve Reeves never posed fully nude, although there are some stunning semi-nudes of him out there if you know where to look. He did, however, appear in some magazines that were pitched to gays such as on this Body Beautiful cover by Russ Warner.
There is apparently a photo of him sunbathing nude when at Cannes.
ReplyDeleteI googled that, and it is a grainy paparazzi type image.
DeleteHe did several nudes, but they were Albert's favorite derriere shots. No full frontals though.
ReplyDeleteBy the 1950s, bodybuilding had entered into its own as a bone fide sporting discipline, but the increasingly conservative social atmosphere of the decade reflected in not just cyclical fashion, but an insistence that modesty prevail. The trunks of this period were nearly twice the size of those of the late 40s and cut to reduce and not emphasize the male contour, although Mr Reeves seems in this shot to have managed to buck the trend.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid every time I see a picture of him, I get this earworm:
Let me show you around, maybe play you a sound
You look like you're both pretty groovy
Or if you want something visual, that's not too abysmal
We could take in an old Steve Reeves movie
I'm just a sweet transvestite
From Transexual, Transylvania
Richard O'Brien... I saw the original production in London with Tim Curry in the leading role. A definitive performance.
Damn!! What I would give to have seen the original version of The Rocky Horror Show. The Rocky Horror Picture Show, (changed the title for the movie) made both Susan Sarandons and Barry Bostwicks careers take off. Kind of hard to miss the "old Steve Reeves movie" line when watching the show.
ReplyDeleteBel homme Steve Reeves, très magnifique.
ReplyDeleteWhen he visited France for bodybuilding competitions and when he made films Italy, Reeves was known to sunbath nude and swim nude on the Riviera.
Sounds like you fit right in with the locals.
