Oldest Selfie, 1839

I have seen this photo taken by and of American Robert Cornelius in 1839 referred to as the world's oldest selfie.  He's rather good looking and even with the poor quality has piercing eyes.
Here's what he looks like with a little digital help:

  1. When was photography invented? I had no idea it was available in 1839.

    1. The earliest recorded was in 1826-27, and it was a landscape that was so hazy that it was only barely recognizable. And I mean barely. Some observers have to be told what it is, and then they say, "Oh, now I see it."

  2. So this selfie is from sometime before the invention of the comb.

    1. So it would seem unless that was stylish, lol. Reminds me of the time a top Paris fashion model fell asleep on the Metro and awoke with disheveled hair. She didn't notice and walked around the area of the top fashion boutiques for hours before anyone told her. Two days later half the women in Paris had hair like hers.

  3. Wonderful. I wish my hair would do that.
