Rossano Brazzi . . . very Continental
Our last car lovers' special is Italian actor Rossano Brazzi and his 1958 Lincoln Continentat.
The survivors are very collectible and command high prices when in good condition. My uncle used to go around snooping in barns in West Texas and buying old cars from even older widows and restoring them. His alltime favorite was a 1957 DeSoto Adventurer that he came across in 2004.
In Europe in the 50’s and 60’s the ultimate status symbol was not to own a Ferrari or Rolls, but an American luxury barge. Despite having to pay sky high duties that tripled the purchase price and Europe’s high gasoline prices. Argentina was worse, to keep their foreign debt in check American car sales were limited to auctions, a 1960 Cadillac that would cost $5500 in the US, would be auctioned for $20,000 ! Miss these great cars when you could grt great deals on them used in the 70’s and 80’s….:)

ReplyDeleteRight.
DeleteSummertime with Katherine Hepburn. Looks like he switched to a bikini of sorts you can see where he is not tanned.
ReplyDeleteYes, I should have tagged the tan lines.
DeleteI always found those cars attractive in a gaudy way like the ‘59 Cadillac. Too bad they were terrible rust buckets and didn’t survive the’60s.
