Vic on the Phone

Our last nude picture of Mr. Seipke shows him on the telephone.
This got a lot of likes on my old tumblr when I posted it there.

  1. I was probably one of those likes. I was in lust for that lamp! 😍

  2. I can understand why. That well-built, handsome naked male on the phone was put there just to distract us from the lamp. Jerry, is he very lightly oiled?

  4. What a superb image. Just superb. I don't think I've ever seen accredited. Any guesses?

And that rotary telephone! It reminds me of that little, overlooked gem of a moment in the film Gosford Park (2001) when Morris Weissman, an American film director and friend of Ivor Novello - played by Bob Balaban - picks up the telephone in this huge stately home lost in the middle of nowhere in the English countryside and says, "I have a call booked to Los Angeles... Los Angeles, California... USA?"

    1. The skill level makes me think of Doug Juleff, but he wasn't known for domestic scenes. Well, I just did some research, and at least one very well respected source says it is indeed by Douglas of Detroit. Live and learn. And yes, there was a time when international calls were so rare they had to be booked in advance.

  5. Some of these "domestic" shots can look at a bit cheesy. But the combination of good lighting, well chosen props and Mr Seipke's magnificent physical presence, this works stunningly. More than a hint of film noir, too. Love it.

    1. Turns out to be by Doug Juleff, so that would account for why it's head and shoulders above the usual domestic genre.

  6. This is one of the first pictures I filed when I first started collecting. It never disappoints. And I would like to have all the furnishings and the gentleman!

    1. Right. My parents bought that same end table in a darker color.

  7. Photographed at the vast Hudson Department Store in Detroit where Juleff worked as a portrait and wedding photographer. Juleff would stay after hours and photograph his models in the display alcoves of the furniture department ! He would sneak them in just before closing time….:)
