The Civilian Conservation Corps was a make-work project from the late 1930s
that used unemployed young men to do forestry, parks, and utility construction. They
were supposed to learn useful skills, and many did, but most of them went straight
into the army in 1942. These guys are showing off some of their favorite things.
My father had some interesting stories to tell about his experiences in the CCC.

DeleteThis is definitely very interesting. It would sure have been nice to know what was going on!
ReplyDeleteI have other photos from what might have been the same session, but unfortunately the quality is even worse than this. So no help in knowing exactly what they were up to.
DeleteWe owe an awful lot to the CCC. It may have been make work but they made tremendous improvements to our national parks that we still enjoy today.
ReplyDeleteYes, the value added to our parks and monuments was well worth the money.
