Creation?
I don't know if this is borrowed from Michelangelo,
but I really like it better than what I saw in the Sistine Chapel.
Titled "Adam" in some books. Most authors suggest that the majority of his academic nudes were based on classical fine art paintings and sculpture, especially Michelangelo. Emmanuel Cooper, in his book Fully Exposed, compares this photo and Michelangelo's fresco, concluding that this is a poor imitation. The fact that one is a study for artists and the other a finished piece doesn't seem to concern Mr. Cooper.
Mr. Cooper needs to broaden his horizon. As noted in my caption, I've been to the Sistine Chapel and like this version much better. Viewing the photo is also more pleasant in that one is not shuffled through a dim, crowded room just to get a quick glimpse.
Yes, having a photograph of a naked man is far better than a painting.
ReplyDeleteI can't argue with that, but I do enjoy both.
DeleteA masterpiece posed by a master. Oh to be that good.
ReplyDeleteA master indeed. Marconi's photographs were used by no less a figure than Rodin for several of his sculptures.
DeleteMaybe he's shopping.
ReplyDeleteSB Dan
I hope I'm on his list.
