TR waltzed into the Republican nomination for president in 1904 and is shown above giving a stump speech. To the surprise and outright dismay of mainstream Republicans, he pursued an even more progressive agenda in his second term, supporting labor rights, an eight hour work day, and restrictions on child labor. Despite accusations that he received corporate campaign funding, his policies were seen by many as not being friendly to corporations or the extremely wealthy. Known as The Conservation President, TR established five national parks, four national monuments, and the organizational framework that led to many more. Below, we see him with John Muir.
