G-Rated Military Men
Today we look at some mostly World War II G-rated military men. We begin
with Ye Olde Iwo Jima Spa, a surprisingly elaborate rest and recreation facility
that included massage tables and piped in sulphur water therapeutic baths.
Would enjoy knowing what the Man in the forefront is doing with his hands in the air. The other Man is watching those hands so the hand gestures must be related to a conversation the 2 are having. Everyone seems to know that a Photo is being taken and do not seem to mind posing in towels. Come on in we have Specials for Tired Fliers on Sulphur Baths and Masseurs.
The hand gestures are a way pilots demonstrated air combat movements to one another. I've seen it in old newsreels, and it's much more recognizable when in motion.
That spa was for pilots, as noted already, so that pilot was probably telling a story about some maneuver he made while flying, possibly shooting down an enemy plane. There are photos of nude pilots getting massaged and taking baths at that facility on the internet.
My father who was in the Marines during the war, always said the pilots of the Marines, Navy and Army Air Corps were held in high regard. These men being officers enjoyed the relaxation of a spa. -CA jock

A bit of normality in tough times, they deserved it.
ReplyDeleteThey probably saw it aa luxury. Something tells me that spa attendance was not a normal part of their lives in peacetime.
DeleteAs said above a most well deserved respite from war. And who can blame the pilot for boasting of his heroic exploits in the air.
